Sea Haven Cottage is one of four cottages in a horse shoe shaped terrace just behind the grassy area above Gorran Haven beach known as 'the Driving Boats' after the pilchard boats that were stored there.

The cottage is thick walled and well built being constructed by squire Williams of Caerhayes for the fishermen in 1880. It is quite modest in size but has been well and comfortably furnished in a rather Italian in style. It has everything two people need for a pleasant and relaxing stay. The cliff path and the beach are (really) a stonesthrow away.

Layout

Front door from the shared courtyard opens into a small lobby with fridge (with icebox) in an alcove and storage space.

Beyond this is a bright galley kitchen equipped with microwave and small electric cooker with grill oven and two rings. All the usual kitchen equipment, glasses and pans etc. The washing machine is in the utility room off the courtyard.

The sittingroom has L shaped seating on two walls, flat screen TV with Freeview box, small dining table (for two), telephone. Also shelves of books and games. There is a fireplace with a log burner style electric fire; the cottage is heated by night storage radiators. The ground floor is paved with quarry tiles with rugs. Upstairs is carpeted except the bathroom.

Stairs lead up to the Bedroom which has 3ft twin divan beds that can be joined to make a kingsize bed. There is ample storage in two chests of drawers and an alcove wardrobe. There is a TV with dvd player. The window looks over the roof of the net loft to the sea and the headland.

From the bedroom the is another small lobby which has a couple of windows one of which looks out over the boatyard and cliff path and sea. Here a folding table makes a good place to sit and write.

Off this, is the small cleverly arranged bathroom. This has WC, basin and electric shower over a half sized bath. The bath is fitted with a seat and a doorway at one end. It can be used as a conventional shower too, of course.

The cottage does not have a garden, but the shared, open ended courtyard faces south and the beach and cliffs are so close that you could easily be eating breakfast on the cliff above the beach in 2 minutes from your kitchen (or forget kitchen and visit the beach cafe, 1 minute).

Linen and towels are provided, electricity is included.

Deck chairs and BBQ are in the utility shed.

Access and location

Sea Haven does not have a parking space (like so many in the older village) but it is possible to stop on quiet Foxhole lane and unpack before parking in the village car park a short walk up the main street. The village shops, pub, cafe, hairdresser and of course the beach are all very nearby.

Just outside the cottages, off the Driving Boats green, is the beautiful South Coast Footpath, which leads up onto the Dodman headland and beyond, through an aptly designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Along this path there are several beautiful lesser known beaches and often sightings of dolphins.
